Makinde …..Commissions NPF Violence Crime Response Unit (1945900)
Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has assured all security agencies and the Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State that his administration would continue to support them in strengthening their collective capability to protect life and property.
This was stated by the governor at a ceremony held on Saturday at Eleyele Police Command in Ibadan to inaugurate the Oyo State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit and Oversight Committee.
Makinde described it as the nation’s first initiative of this kind. He also noted the determination shown by the government and the security agencies in ensuring the safety and protection of people and property throughout the entire state.
The Governor praised the Inspector General of Police Mr Tunji Dsu and thanked all security agencies for keeping Oyo State safe. He expressed optimism that the Violent Crime Response Unit will succeed in its mission to combat violent crime and ensure lasting peace, stability and safety in Oyo State as well as Nigeria.

The governor expressed sympathy for the families of those killed in the Oriire Local Government Area, saying that this incident is a reminder to government that it must take proactive measures regarding security.
His government is working closely with the security services to find out what occurred and prevent similar incidents in future.
The Governor called on community leaders to monitor their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to the security agencies.
The governor assured Oyo State residents that his government will continue to fight crime and work effectively with the security agencies in order to keep the state safe.

In his earlier welcome speech, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga – the Oyo State Commissioner of Police – described the Violent Crime Response Unit as a major policing initiative aimed to strengthen public trust, enhance professionalism and improve tactical operations, in accordance with the vision set forth by the Inspector General of Police.
?He explained that the VCRU was created to replace former tactical teams as a more accountable, intelligence-driven, professionally trained, and human-rights-compliant unit, capable of responding swiftly to violent crimes and emerging security threats.
According to the CP, officers from different Divisions and Formations in the State were selected for the unit based on discipline, experience, competency and integrity.

He also praised Governor Makinde’s administration for its support in advancing security in the state.
Barr, State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission in Oyo, and Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, Coordinator for the Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative sent separate messages to express their good will.
Abayomi Agundele, the state coordinator of National Human Rights Commission in Oyo State said that the initiative was a major step forward towards improving public safety.
The Oyo State Government was praised for having a strong security structure to fight crime and for encouraging a cordial relationship between security agencies.
While other dignitaries were present, the event was attended by Mr Abayomi Fagbenro, Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, AIG Sikiru Akande, Chairman of the Oyo State Security Network Corps (Amotekun), AIG Sikiru Akande, and CP Ayodele sonubi, Executive Adviser of the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Agency.
