Intermountain Health selected Russ Williams as its new president for Intermountain Health Nevada Children’s Hospital. Williams is an experienced leader in healthcare.
Russ Williams is the experienced healthcare leader who has been appointed as Intermountain Health Nevada Children’s Hospital’s new president.
Williams’ new role will see him leading the future development of Nevada’s only children’s hospital.
Williams has more than 20 years of experience as a leader in the pediatric and academic health care fields.
The Nevada Children’s Hospital is one of the best investments that we can make for the future of this region. Mitch Cloward said that families in our state need access to comprehensive, world-class pediatric care near home. This hospital will change what’s possible for future generations. “Russ has the leadership, vision and expertise to move this important work forward.”
Williams’ most recent leadership positions were at Texas Children’s Hospital, Austin, Texas.
He supported the rapid growth of a pediatric platform, while strengthening partnerships between clinical, academic and community teams.
Williams also served in leadership roles at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University Health and University of Minnesota. Williams held leadership positions in all of these areas, including system operations, regional program initiatives, patient-experience efforts and capital projects, such as the opening new children’s hospital.
His deep knowledge of pediatric health care and commitment to partnership with the community make him an ideal leader for the moment. Cloward said, “We are happy to have Russ join us and look forward to working together to build a healthier, stronger future for Nevada children.” His experience and leadership stability will be key as we prepare and build Nevada Children’s Hospital.
Mandy Richards DNP, RN is the chief nursing executive at Intermountain Health and President of Children’s Health. She said: “Russ knows that this opportunity to transform Nevada’s pediatric health will not be possible without the community.” Russ’ commitment to working with families, caregivers, doctors, community leaders and philanthropic donors will help increase access to the pediatric care needed now and create a healthier future for children.
Intermountain Health plans to build a stand-alone Children’s Hospital at University of Nevada Las Vegas Harry Reid Research and Technology Park in Southwest Las Vegas. Intermountain Health announced in 2025 the architects and contractor for the project, and then began the design process.
Intermountain Health has committed to funding two thirds of the $1.2 billion+ needed for the Nevada Children’s Health project, which includes the stand-alone children’s hospitals. Intermountain Foundation has been commissioned by Intermountain to find the rest of funding from philanthropic sources.
David Flood, chief development officer of Intermountain Health and president of Intermountain Foundation said: “This campaign is much more than just a charitable one.
It is an historic event.” We are investing two dollars per dollar invested in philanthropic aid by the community, because this hospital is worthy of nothing less.
Flood added, “We credit the success of this campaign to Utah donors who had big dreams and helped us imagine what pediatric care can be in our communities.” We’re working now with Nevada donors, leaders and groups to create transformational changes that will last longer than us all.
Bill and Wendy Hornbuckle were announced by Intermountain Foundation last autumn to be the leaders of the Nevada Campaign for Kids, the largest philanthropic initiative ever launched to provide comprehensive health care for children in Nevada.
Bill Hornbuckle is the chairman of Intermountain Health Campaign for Kids and chief executive and president at MGM Resorts International. Russ Williams understands the importance of philanthropy in transforming healthcare and leaving a legacy. Intermountain Health’s partnership with our donors community will redefine what is possible. “I am honored to be standing beside them, and I invite the leaders of our community to join us as we build something that will forever change healthcare in Nevada.”
