Lagos State Chapter of All Progressives Congress has announced that it will create a database to track all its members in the entire state.
The initiative, according to Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi of the Party, is designed for effective planning, and to ensure that party members who are committed and dedicated are identified, and properly rewarded.
Ojelabi revealed this at a media briefing on the end of the year held at Ikeja’s party secretariat, located on Acme Road.
He stated that APC was well-positioned to remain in power. Noting the high performance of all its office holders, he noted that other parties have continued to recruit members.
We want a list of all our members. To ensure we are fully prepared for the next elections, we want to have a database of our party members. Statistic data on the members of our actual party is what we want.
The National Executive Council of the party also determined that membership should be significant. What is the value of being a member APC if you do not have a permanent voter card (PVC)? “That is why we have started e-registration for party members,” said he.
He said that the new members as well as existing ones would be included in this exercise.
You will register electronically, whether you join the party the first time or are an existing member. Members will be revalidated.
Ojelabi said that “the registration will begin on January 5 in all 245 of the wards recognized by the constitution for the party, by God’s grace.”
He also called on Nigerians not to stop praying for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and stressed that national progress is dependent upon peace.
In our prayers, let us not forget our leaders. Peace is essential for development. Our biggest challenge is security, which we must all take on together.
He said: “I plead on behalf of the President and Lagos State Government to come together in order to bring peace into the country.”
Ojelabi stated that a committee was done with its task of finding qualified candidates in all wards.
He said: “The process is over, and the cabinet compositions will be announced in the next few weeks so that they can begin operations.”
According to President Tinubu’s directive, he also assured the aspirants of the recent local government elections the funds they paid for the nomination forms in order to be elected chairman and councillor would soon get refunded. He said that the reason for the delay is due to preparations related to elections.
Ojelabi, in response to allegations that candidates were imposed on him, dismissed these claims by saying such accusations usually occur when certain people are not the preferred choice of a party.
Our party has some of the most successful primaries across the nation. He said that we put a priority on loyalty, commitment and consistency in meetings.
Mogaji Seye Oladejo echoed his statement, saying that the APC would be able to accommodate new members while validating the existing ones.
Oladejo clarified that the consensus which, according to Nigerian constitution, and party guidelines, is permitted, is what’s often called imposition.
People complain when the consensus is not in their favor. Our guidelines clearly state that consensus is required before a primary election.
The fact that someone is the child or grandchild of a leader in a political party does not make them unqualified. This person would have to be qualified, and also a member in good standing of the political party. “Ultimately it’s the voters who decide,” said he.
Oladejo said that APC’s rise from being a dominant party in Lagos State, to now controlling multiple states throughout the Federation is testament to the consistency of its policies and programmes aimed at the people.
