InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has launched its newest hotel, InterContinental Indianapolis, as part of IHG Hotels & Resorts luxury lifestyle portfolio. InterContinental Indianapolis, located in downtown Indianapolis near Monument Circle and Indiana State Capitol is close to the hotel. This is the first new luxury hotel in 20 years. It has 170 rooms and suites, two restaurants, both helmed Chef Craig Baker. There are also 5,000 square foot of event and meeting space and a Penthouse Suite located on a private level. The historic Illinois Building was home to the hotel, which was rated as Indiana’s top 10 endangered landmarks. Before it was bought by Keystone Group, a local developer and owner of the building. Keystone Group completed the construction in 2024.

Ersal Ozdemir, Keystone Group’s owner and developer said: “The InterContinental Indianapolis represents a new level of luxury for the tourism and hospitality industries in America’s vibrant city.” Keystone Group has turned the Illinois Building, with its distinguished InterContinental Brand, into the first luxury hotel of this kind.

Leanne Harwood is the senior vice president of Luxury & Lifestyle Americas at IHG Hotels & Resorts. She said: “As the InterContinental Indianapolis opens its doors with Keystone Group we are excited to create a unique experience for modern luxury travelers and set a standard of hospitality for this region.” The stunning InterContinental Indianapolis embodies Indianapolis’ vibrant culture, rich history, and a new standard of hospitality.

The hotel welcomes guests with grillwork on panels and brass doors. Original elements created by Robush and Hunter, an architect duo from 1925, remain in tact but have been repainted with modern colors. The $120 million renovation included the construction of a rooftop, which includes the historic entrance with its facets from the past. This is blended with the new canopy. Exterior of the hotel, which features a large portion of original Illinois Building architecture, is made up of granite, limestone, and Moderne bas-relief panels, and is topped by terracotta cornice with gold glaze. Murano chandeliers, a three-story glass chandelier hanging from the lobby on the second floor, and an art program featuring pieces throughout the property that have been commissioned by Indiana artists are among the interior details. Italian marble is also used throughout.

Select suites offer soaking bathtubs. Each of the 170 rooms in this hotel has a shower with a walk-in. The bathrooms have double vanities, and the rooms are equipped with a wet bar. Nespresso Machines and mini-bars are also available in the rooms, as well as Bal D’Afrique scented BYREDO bath products.

Indiana chef Craig Baker is the executive chef of the hotel. He oversees all the food and beverage options, which include the Astrea rooftop bar and Serliana. Astrea, a cocktail bar that is open all year round and has both an indoor and outdoor area, offers a variety of cocktails. The Monument G&T, and Cardinal Crown are two of the cocktail drinks on the menu. Serliana is located on the second floor of the hotel and serves breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Baker was inspired by local favourites and the architecture of the hotel to design a classic menu. The existing Hyde Park Steakhouse is located at the ground level of the hotel.

There are over 5,000 sq. ft. of event and meeting space at the hotel, including a ballroom that can accommodate weddings and galas as well corporate events. The executive boardroom is also available. On-site specialists cater to weddings in four different styles: reception, dinner, destination, and rooftop.

The hotel offers a fitness center with free weights and Peloton Bikes and Row.
